Frederick's Portrait

Sandy Phillips, a student of Syracuse's University's School of Management, had returned to his academic studies at age 27 after several years of working in the business world. He was elected to the Student Government Association in the fall of 1987 and became Vice President for Administrative Operations in February 1988. In August of that year, the SGA gave him this resolution, "Whereas, Frederick "Sandy" Phillips has served this Cabinet, this Association, and the entire Syracuse University community in an enthusiastic, productive, and professional manner in his tenure as Vice President of Administrative Operations: and Whereas, Frederick "Sandy" Phillips has accomplished much in his capacity as Vice President for Administrative Operations to strengthen the Student Government Association and to make Syracuse University a better place to live and learn, NOW THEREFORE….be it Resolved, that the members of the Student Government Association Cabinet commend Frederick "Sandy" Phillips for his outstanding contributions to the undergraduate students of Syracuse University.: This recognition meant so very much to Sandy. He truly loved being a student at Syracuse and being a part of the Student Government Association.

A talented musician, athlete, and poet, Sandy had a passion for people and was in the very prime of his exploration of life. While he was littler older than other students, he considered this an opportunity to be a positive influence on those around him. This didn't diminish his fun-loving nature, though, and he had wonderful times of play and pranks throughout his life and with his friends from home and at Syracuse University.

Sandy's mother and father and two brothers, Clark and Douglas, relish the memories he left behind. He has a little nephew now whom he would adore.

Light and giving within a space; A journey through a timeless place; Smiles which flow from a child's face; These are you.
-- from his collection, "You's," by Sandy Phillips
