2004 Remembrance Week Schedule of Events

October 22nd – October 29th

- Rose Laying Ceremony – A rose laying ceremony at the Wall of Remembrance in front of the Hall of Languages will be held Oct. 22nd at 2:03 (the time of the crash).

- Remembrance Convocation – It will be held in Hendricks Chapel following the Rose Laying Ceremony. The Remembrance Scholars and Lockerbie Scholars will be recognized and honored at this event.

- Photo Exhibits – A campus-wide exhibit of posters of the 35 student victims will be spread throughout campus buildings.

- Memorial Ribbons – Remembrance Scholars will tie memorial ribbons to trees around campus.

- Remembrance Buttons – Remembrance Scholars will wear buttons throughout Remembrance Week commemorating the 35 student victims.

- Lapel Pins and Carnations – Remembrance Scholars will distribute blue lapel pins in Schine Student Center Atrium. Remembrance Scholars will distribute carnations on the Quad as well.

- Syracuse PEACE Council – There will be a presentation by the Syracuse PEACE Council. The presentation is titled “How Terrorism Affects the Local and Global Community”.

- Classroom Presentations – Remembrance Scholars will present briefly to three sixth grade classrooms at Porter Elementary School and to the International Young Scholars Program in Hendricks Chapel.

- Theatre Presentation – “The Women of Lockerbie” play will be performed by the SU Drama Department in the Black Box Theatre at Syracuse Stage

Remembrance Week 2004 consisted of a weeklong series of events honoring the lives of 35 Syracuse University students who lost their lives in the Pan Am Flight 103 terrorist attack over Lockerbie, Scotland, on December 21, 1988. Each year, 35 Remembrance Scholarships, each in the amount of $5,000, are awarded to undergraduate students because of distinguished academic achievement, citizenship, and service to community. The 2004-2005 Remembrance Scholars hosted all events.
